Video of Shane Holland Design's production process provided by Hanley Energy and The Magic TractorThis commission to design and make Player of the Series trophies for the Inter-Provincial Cup ,and Inter-Provincial Trophy, and Inter-Provincial Championship, was part of Hanley Energy's sponsorship of the Series run by Cricket Ireland. The design using bronze, acrylic stainless steel and 3 species of native Irish hardwoods, Yew, Elm and Spanish Chestnut were chosen to show sustainability as a key force in this sponsorship. They have a stainless steel sphere as the centre-piece with a swirl of bronze to emphasise the spin on the ball, key to cricket. The Series has been running all summer with the final match taking place next week, more information can be found here.
Yesterday on May the 5th, the Dóchas Annual Conference took place in Croke Park Conference Centre. The ceremony, a gathering of international and domestic NGOs, government representatives, environmental groups, activists, civil society and private sector organisations, began with a keynote speech from President Michael D. Higgins and other leaders in international development. We produced a perpetual award for Global Citizen of the Year which was awarded to Colette Nkunda and an Innovative Programme of the Year award which was given to Camara Education. These handmade awards consisted of a stained ash base with a stainless steel name plate and a hammered and torched copper triangular plate. This design champions people who go through a lot of difficulty to achieve their goals, the torched and hammered acknowledged their persistence through difficulty. Have a look at this quick video of us producing the copper sails. On the 29th of January, the Ireland eGovernment awards took place in Dublin Castle. These awards honour the work of public sector teams who deliver better online services to Irish citizens, with a whole range of categories from Irish Language to Promoting Ireland Overseas to Social Media.
We delivered the awards at the end of January, 10 category trophies and 2 overall trophies. The main awards consisted of a polished brass body on an acrylic base, with the two larger awards having an additional base of painted black ash. We were happy to make these awards again this year, thanks to Irene Dehaene and Elucidate.ie, and delighted that the winners enjoyed their trophies. We have just released the Sister Imelda Carew Perpetual Trophy to the Carew family which will be a "Challenge for Change" environmental schools competition in honour of Sr Imelda Carew, who drowned tragically off Inch Strand, Co.Kerry with a colleague in August 2014. Sr Imelda, a Presentation Sister and teacher, devoted a lot of her time to justice ministry across Ireland and around the world. Her family in response to the tragedy initiated this project to create a trophy using ancient black bog oak, possibly thousands of years old, from the Carew family farm in Tipperary. Sr Imelda's niece Helen Carew approached Shane on behalf of the family to help implement the final design. The final design uses the sculpted bog oak, a brushed brass, quartz and acrylic plinth.
Shane who knows the family, hopes "the competition for this "Challenge for Change" will serve her memory well and create a focus for secondary school children to investigate social and environmental challenges into the future." The bog oak was one of the most dense materials we have ever worked on in the workshop. Helen had done the initial sculpting and we finished it for her. The RTÉ Sports Awards are taking place this Saturday the 19th of December and will be broadcast on RTÉ One at 9.40pm. Our handbuilt perpetual awards that will be given on the night are RTÉ Sport Person of the Year, Team of the Year and Manager of the Year. The ceremony will also see the Hall of Fame award being presented to a sporting legend, which has just been finished in our workshop here in Duleek. Have a look at Brian O'Driscoll, the Hall of Fame winner 2014 holding our award. © Cathal Noonan/www.Inpho.ie The main award on the night is Sports Person of the Year, with 14 nominees in total. Will it be Paul O'Connell who was named Player of the Tournament during the Six Nations or 2015 Hurler of the Year TJ Reid? Can rugby star Sophie Spence nab it or has Conor McGregor earned it after his 13 second UFC Featherweight World Championship victory?
Keep your eyes peeled for all our handmade awards we produced along with PromoCraft tomorrow night! Congratulations to all who won awards at the Irish Pharmacist Awards 2015 at the Mansion House in Dublin at the end of November. 9 awards were presented throughout the night to celebrate and reward pharmacists in hospital, community, industry, academic and leading pharmaceutical companies. Our weighing scale design was again in action for these highly desirable awards in brass, bronze, aluminium and acrylic.
If you have an awards event, please don't hesitate to contact us. This commission to design and make perpetual trophies and player of the series trophies for the Interprovincial Cup ,and interprovincial Trophy were part of Hanley Energy's sponsorship of the Series run by Cricket Ireland. The design using bronze, acrylic stainless steel and 3 species of native Irish hardwoods, Yew, Elm and Spanish Chestnut were chosen to show sustainablity as a key force in this sponsorship. Shane Holland and Team at Shane Holland Design sculpted these pieces integrating the famous Kookaburra white cricket ball as the centre-piece with a swirl of bronze to emphasise the spin on the ball key to cricket. Each trophy is signed by the designer with the name of the wooden species. The championship will be decided at Egilnton Cricket club in Co Derry on the 26th June where the initial trophies will be given out by Clive Gilmore CEO of Hanley Energy.
